Publication Ethics
The Journal of The Kansas Medical Society adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractices. All authors submitting their works to this journal for publication as original articles attest that the submitted works represent their authors’ contributions and have not been copied or plagiarized in whole or in part from other works. The journal is committed to upholding the integrity of the academic record.
Duties of Authors
- Authors must ensure that their work is original and properly cited.
- All authors must have significantly contributed to the research.
- Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest.
- Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
- Authors must identify all sources used in the creation of their manuscript.
- If the authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor or publisher.
Duties of Editors
- Editors are responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published.
- Editors must ensure that each manuscript is evaluated for its intellectual content without regard to the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, or citizenship.
- Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, or other editorial advisers.
- Editors should take reasonable responsive measures when ethical complaints have been presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published paper.
Duties of Reviewers
- Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the review process.
- Reviewers should bring to the editor’s attention any information that may be reason to reject publication of a manuscript.
- Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts objectively, fairly, and professionally.
- Reviewers must notify the editor if they have conflicts of interest.
Plagiarism and Misconduct
The journal uses plagiarism detection tools to check the originality of submissions. Any case of plagiarism, data fabrication, image manipulation, or other forms of misconduct will result in rejection or retraction of the manuscript.
